What's your opinion of real life photos of people in SL? Personally, I don't like them. I have a picture in my head of what you look like based on how you present yourself in SL. There's even a sound in my head of your voice. Often, a real life photo conflicts with that image and ruins my fantasy of you.
Too much real life information can destroy the fantasy too. There was a time I knew a lady that had a very pretty avatar. Then I discovered the real life person behind the avatar was a man. Now her voice in my head is deep and low and not pretty and high pitched.
She wasn't hiding anything from me. It was right there in her profile. I just didn't know what a T-girl was at that time. Now I know.
And even if you're young and beautiful in SL, I still don't to want see your real life photo. Because now I'm wondering why you would be in SL, when your real life should be so wonderful.
Isn't there information that you would rather have never learned?
I agree, why bother having a second life if you want to make your real life part of it?
ReplyDeleteMy avatar is my fantasy life, I bring real feelings into SL but I can have a different look there, be anyone I want, wear impossible clothes, dance the night away without getting tired.
I don't want to be tied to a real image!

So nice to hear from you Alice. I guess some people like to use SL for a real life dating platform, so real life appearance is important to them. I thought that was what Facebook was for.
ReplyDeleteMe neither I like. SL is fantasy as it should be. Another thing is when entablas deep friendship with someone in SL, then it's fine if you want to meet. RL and SL are different things. Mind you, I'm beautiful in RL, eh! and woman! 8)))

ReplyDeleteYou're beautiful in RL? Now I want to see a RL photo! Just kidding. I've never met anyone in RL from SL, but if you're going to meet, then I can see where RL photos would be good.
ReplyDeleteI like profile pics that show a tiny glimpse of a person, but not a full image...kind of a tease. I agree though I really have my own image of a person in my mind and don't want it ruined. I'm old school SL and don't even want to hear someone's voice (well maybe only to verify F/M). Voice has spoiled SL for me. I don't want to hear a young avatar that sounds old.
ReplyDeleteWhat makes you think someone that looks good in RL has such a wonderful life? That's not always the case, plus there are other reasons for being on SL than relationships. Sorry I'm wordy lol!
A teaser photo could be good, like just a photo of the person's feet. And yes, voice has some of the drawbacks as RL photos. I suppose someone could look good in RL and have an unfortunate life, like being troubled about all the dates she has to turn down and feelings of guilt about the free drinks suitors buy her at nightclubs. I think SL is mainly about money and relationships, but mostly relationships. It's basically a 3D chat room.
